The city of Seattle is taking a symbolic stand against junk mail. The City Council is asking the state legislature to create a 'do-not-mail' registry to give people the opportunity to opt-out. Members said they're tired of spending millions of dollars to collect and recycle all those ads for the neighborhood dry-cleaners or dentists.

Striking a blow for citizens who want to do their part, the Seattle City Council Thursday passed a resolution urging the Legislature to create a Do Not Mail junk mail registry akin to the Do Not Call registry for home phones.
